For the third quarter of fiscal 2026 (ended May 31, 2026), Greenbrier reported revenue of $576.5 million, a decline from $587.5 million sequentially and $842.7 million in Q3 2025. Despite the revenue contraction, the aggregate gross margin expanded to 14.1%, marking a 230-basis-point sequential increase. Net earnings attributable to the company were $18.9 million (or $0.60 per diluted share), down from $60.1 million ($1.86 per share) year-over-year. Core EBITDA stood at $69.1 million, representing a 12% margin.
Fleet Operations & Backlog
The company’s owned lease fleet grew 23% sequentially to approximately 20,600 units. Fleet utilization remained highly robust at 99.0%, supported by an average remaining lease term of 2.7 years and a net book value of ~$1.7 billion. The commercial pipeline secured orders for 2,200 new units valued at $340 million, resulting in a total new railcar backlog of 13,800 units valued at $2.0 billion.
Capital Structure, Cash Flow & Valuation
Greenbrier maintains ~$890 million in total liquidity, comprising ~$274 million in cash and ~$613 million in available borrowing capacity. LTM operating cash flow was recorded at $106 million. Total net funded debt is $1,551 million, structured as $1,086 million in non-recourse debt tied to the lease fleet and $465 million in recourse debt. With total equity standing at $1,696.3 million, the company’s net debt-to-equity ratio sits at an estimated 0.91x. Greenbrier’s current market capitalization is approximately $1.5 billion.
Updated Guidance
Management updated its FY26 guidance, projecting revenues of $2.4–$2.5 billion, tighter delivery volumes of 15,650–15,850 units, and an adjusted aggregate gross margin of 13.8%–14.2%. Diluted EPS guidance was narrowed to $3.00–$3.15.
