People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate Zamfara StateDauda Lawal, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country is jittery because of the overwhelming support and the popularity of the party is enjoying.
He said with the gale force of defection currently sweeping the ruling APC in the state, the ruling party has reason to fear.
Mr. Lawal said this in Gusau, the state capital, on Friday afternoon while denouncing the statement by the APC that sponsored thugs to disrupt peace and unleash chaos during campaigns and political rallies.
A statement from the media office described the allegation as a “baseless lie”.
“Our attention has been drawn to the shameless and irresponsible press release issued by the Zamfara Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs accusing the PDP of sponsoring thugs to disrupt political rallies in the state. We are not surprised because the APC in Zamfara is notorious for its distortions be deliberate and study the facts,” he said.
“Zamfara government is confused and agitated by the overwhelming support and popularity of the PDP, especially the storm of defection that has devastated the APC in the state.
“The Matawalle-led government, knowing that they cannot win the election in Zamfara State, is desperately creating lies, lies and innuendos,” Mr. Lawal said.
He said the statement was a strategy to destabilize the PDP.
“We want to categorically deny the baseless lies contained in the press statement. Our campaign and rallies are peaceful and will continue in accordance with the law. We understand that APC is very concerned about the popularity that Dauda Lawal is gaining across Zamfara, especially because of his focus and policy-based campaign on issues that will improve the lives of the people, because the APC is desperate to destroy their image, and the PDP,” the media office said.
Mr. Lawal said the previous APC-led government had fired thugs to attack campaign groups and offices and set fire to campaign vehicles.

APC had in a statement last Tuesday accused Mr. Lawal of sponsoring thugs to launch attacks on APC members.
The state government accused thugs loyal to Mr. Lawal of attacking an APC campaign vehicle while celebrating the Sokoto Court of Appeal verdict.
