Zamfara State PDP Governorship candidate, Dauda Lawal, has said the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state is jittery over the support and popularity the party enjoys, especially with the storm of defection currently rocking the ruling APC. Zamfara.
Lawal, who stated this in Gusau today, refuted allegations by the Zamfara State Government that the PDP in the state has sponsored thugs to disrupt peace and unleash chaos during political campaigns and rallies.
PDP gubernatorial aspirant who spoke through the Dauda Lawal Media Office described the allegation as “a lie without substance”.
He said, “Our attention has been drawn to the shameless and irresponsible press release issued by the Zamfara Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs accusing the PDP of sponsoring thugs to disrupt political rallies in the state. We are not surprised because the APC in Zamfara is notorious due to the deliberate distortion and misrepresentation of facts.
“Zamfara government is confused and agitated by the overwhelming support and popularity of the PDP, especially the storm of defection that has devastated the APC in the state.
“The Matawalle-led government, knowing that they cannot win the elections in Zamfara State, in desperation, they have made political heat, lies and innuendo.
“This strategy was adopted by the ruling APC to distract us from gaining more grounds and move inches towards victory in the upcoming elections in the state.
“We want to categorically deny the baseless lies contained in the press statement. Our campaign and rallies are peaceful and will continue in accordance with the law. We understand that APC is very concerned about the popularity that Dauda Lawal is gaining across Zamfara, especially because of his focus and policy-based campaign on issues that will improve the lives of the people, because the APC is desperate to destroy their image, and that of the PDP.
“The good people of Zamfara State have not forgotten how the State Government mobilized thugs and thugs who attacked groups, campaign offices, and also set fire to campaign buses. This is a fact with video evidence and documented pictures circulating in the mainstream media and social media.
“With this, Dauda Lawal and Zamfara PDP wish to call on the general public to ignore this latest campaign of defamation by the failed Zamfara APC led government which has failed to provide good governance and is using cheap blackmail and defamation against the main opposition.
“We call on our supporters to remain law abiding despite provocations and mischief by the APC.”
