“Mr. Speaker, but Mr. President, your government has failed to reduce the size of government and public spending,” Mr. Forson said on the floor of Parliament in response to President Akufo-Addo’s State of the Union Address on March 8, 2023.
Ato Forson also stressed that the government has damaged the economic situation by printing money for two consecutive years causing high inflation.
“Mr. President, our economy is growing because we have done it ourselves. Your government has failed us and failed to act. Mr. President this is your score card and this is the true state of our nation,” he said.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his speech stated that Ghana’s economy was doing well before the Covid-19 outbreak and the Russia-Ukraine war.
This, he said, is a fact that has been recognized by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Mr. Akufo-Addo pointed out that because of the political advantage that some people want, they cannot accept the fact that the economy is improving.
“I have said, and the Managing Director of the IMF has also said, our economy is good until covid 19, and the Russian-Ukraine war,” he said.
Earlier, he indicated that he was in the position of 7Th January 2017, he got a very challenging economy, whose growth rate was, at the time, the lowest in two decades.
