Yoruba traditional rulers under the forum of Yoruba Obas, called on the President-elect Bola Tinubu and his Deputy, Kassim Shettima, to use the victory to unite the country for greatness.
The traditional ruler, in a communique at the end of the executive meeting, available to newsmen in Osogbo, said Tinubu’s emergence in the polls is a victory for the general public of the people of the country.
The communique was jointly signed by the President, Administrator and General Secretary of the Forum, Oba Samuel Adeoye, Molokun Atijere and Oba Michael Odunayo, Elerinmo of Erinmo.
The communique encouraged the president-elect to win well by forming a collective government of national unity.
It also called on other presidential candidates who lost the election to rally the president-elect for the rapid development of the country.
“We call on those who lost the election to accept the good results, put aside their differences and join hands with the winners for the overall benefit of the country.
“Tinobu’s vast experience in the organized private sector, his dexterity in managing a cosmopolitan state with a large population like Lagos, his struggle alongside others to achieve the present democracy we enjoy will all make for a successful presidency,” he said. .
The forum also urged the youth not to allow themselves to be used by those who do not have the sincere interest of the country to cause problems in the country.
The communique also praised President Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, for his perseverance in ensuring a fair election, where many lost their strongholds.
The forum also called on the President-elect to consider giving constitutional roles to traditional rulers in the country.
“We Yoruba Obas also want to call on the President – vote to consider giving a constitutional role to traditional rulers in the country.
“We believe this will go a long way in bringing the dividends of democracy closer to the rural areas and also to prevent insecurity in the country, as we are Chief Security Officers in various domains,” he said.
The forum has hundreds of Obas registered in Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Kwara, Ekiti, Ondo and Kogi states.
It was created to promote and protect the interests of Yoruba traditional institutions as well as all Yorubas.
The forum also pushed for a constitutional role for traditional rulers as a means of approaching development for the community at the grassroots.
Some prominent traditional rulers at the forum include the forum’s Public Relations Officer, and Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu, Oba Asunmo Aderibigbe; Financial Secretary and Olasole of Lasole, Oba Jacob Olufayo; Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Ayeni
