Police in Lagos say four “criminals” have been arrested following unrest in the Ojota area of the state.
The spokesman of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated this in a series tweets on Monday.
PREMIUM TIMES already reported that a self-determined group has gathered to implement its schedule”Super Mega“Rally” and Ojota.
“Early today, miscreants masquerading as Yoruba Nation agitators came out in hundreds, disrupting social and commercial activities in the Ojota region of the country,” he wrote.
“Teams of police officers, including the Alausa Division and the Raid Response Squad (RRS) immediately swooped in to disperse the unlawful gathering and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
“The criminals attacked the police, opened fire, and damaged two vehicles in the process.”
Mr Hundeyin said the two officers were shot by “criminals” and had been taken to hospital.
“Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored in the area. Lagosians are advised to conduct legitimate business as measures have been put in place to prevent the breakdown of law and order; and monitoring of the situation continues,” Mr Hundeyin wrote.

“It is important to state unequivocally that the Lagos State Police Command will not allow any person or group of persons, under any circumstances, to disturb the peace we are currently enjoying in the state.
“RRS officers and their patrol vehicles were shot by multiple criminals with pump-action rifles.”
The background
Countering police claims that someone was shot dead, the chairman of the Yoruba Self-Determination Movement (YSDM), Banji Akintoye, claimed that he shot dead two of his members at a “peaceful” rally.
However, the police confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES an as-yet-unidentified person lost his life in the rally.

On July 3, 2021, there was a sales girl, Jumoke Oyeleke shot dead by the police when they tried to disperse the agitators during a public meeting held by members of the Yoruba Nation.
