Yobe to build 100 houses for IDPs, vulnerable households – Daily Trust

The Yobe State Government has said it will construct 100 housing units for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable households affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Muhammad Goje, disclosed this while receiving an EU-Swiss-UN delegation led by the Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr Massimo De Luca, during a project assessment visit to the state.
Goje said the state government had allocated a 14-acre parcel of land in Damaturu for the housing project under the Urban Reintegration Programme, which will be implemented through a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement.
He said the initiative forms part of the European Union-funded Support to Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria (SIDPIN) project aimed at providing durable solutions for displacement caused by insurgency.
According to him, the programme will strengthen urban planning, secure land and housing, institutional capacity and community participation to promote local integration, improve access to basic services and expand livelihood opportunities for IDPs, returnees, host communities and persons living with disabilities.
Speaking earlier, the Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr Massimo De Luca, said the joint mission involving the European Union, France, Germany and Switzerland underscored the partners’ commitment to supporting Yobe’s transition from emergency humanitarian response to long-term recovery and sustainable development.
He stressed the need for sustained financing through public investment, private sector participation and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to ensure donor-supported interventions remain aligned with the state’s recovery and development agenda.
