Yeng Guiao vows fun yet competitive PBA All-Star Game

ILOILO CITY – Coach Yeng Guiao promised to give at least as much competition as his Scottie team against Team Japeth in Sunday’s PBA All-Star Game in Passi City.

“We want to have fun, but we also want the fans to be happy and not replace the fans with a bad game,” Guiao said before Team Scottie’s practice at the Iloilo Sports Complex on Saturday in this city.

Being competitive is usually secondary to the All-Star event, which usually draws a mixed reaction from those who want to see a showcase of the league’s best and most popular players to watch.

But Guiao wanted to follow up on what happened with the Rookie Sophomore Junior game last night.

Team Greats won 158-138 against Team Stalwarts behind Most Valuable Player Adrian Wong, but the game was very close, with players actually showing some defensive moves.

“We know that in other All-Star Games, there is something called matador defense,” Guiao said. “But yesterday, the defense was decent because before they let the ball catch.

“I think, actually, they try to balance trying to win the game, and at the same time, give the quality of the All-Star Game,” he added.

Guiao met the team for the first time, spent the first phase of training to walk through some plays already performed as a coach Rain or Shine.

Another stage is concentrated on allowing the players to create images and choreograph the numbers that will be performed in the traditional dance that will be performed before the game.

While Guiao vowed to make the game worthwhile, he had no plans to show off his dancing skills.

“It will be the end of the world if I do that,” Guiao said in jest.
