Francisco Sanchez Ruiz won the nine-ball World Swimming World Cup, with the Spanish superstar beating Syrian Mohammad Soufi in Sunday’s final.
Sanchez Ruiz, who was forced to come from behind against Mario He to reach the final, took a 6-4 lead in the race for 13 but missed four in the 11th rack to bring Soufi to cut the deficit back to one.
Just when it looked like the Syrian outsider would find the momentum, a scratch on the break allowed the opposition to enter the match and take an 8-7 lead.
Sanchez Ruiz took advantage of another Soufi mistake to take control of the proceedings by making a two-rack buffer to reach double figures in the process and move three away from the title.
The Spaniard seems to have sussed the break and soon reached the mountain.
He struck after Soufi’s break in the 23rd rack left one and eight locked together to seal a memorable victory.

Sanchez Ruiz currently holds the US Open Pool Championship, World Cup of Pool, and World Pool Championship titles in the nine-ball arena.
He said: “It’s an amazing feeling. I don’t have a voice. I feel the pressure. I had an unbelievable year last year, but this is the first one this year and I can’t believe it.
“I didn’t play my best in the final but I fought and got the final result.
“I know that I can lose to someone like Mohammad. He is very good and strong. I played the game, I was very tired, I felt unbelievable, this is the biggest title.”

The world number 1 will now move into the Premier League Pool and World Pool Masters.
“Last year was when I won the big title but when I won the Derby City Classic last year, everything changed in my mind.
“I’m playing well, but I’ve never won a big title. When you win a big one, your confidence goes through the roof.
“There’s a lot of pressure on the Matchroom show, you can’t compare it to anything else.
“In the Mosconi Cup, I didn’t feel like that. When you play in Mosconi, every tournament after, it’s like there’s no pressure.”
