World Cup 2026: Jonas Adjetey says Black Stars call-up remains a privilege
Black Stars defender Jonas Adjetey has described every invitation to the national team as a privilege, saying he never takes his place in the squad for granted despite growing expectations on his performances.
The 22-year-old VfL Wolfsburg centre-back has been one of Ghana’s most impressive players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing a crucial role in the team’s defensive stability during their run to the Round of 32.
Across three Group L matches, Adjetey’s composed displays helped Ghana secure two clean sheets, strengthening his reputation as one of the tournament’s emerging defensive talents.
Speaking on Beyond the Whistle, he reflected on the honour of representing the Black Stars while also stressing the need for continued hard work to maintain his position in the squad.
“Anytime I get a call-up, I thank God because there are a lot of people who deserve the opportunity. I love representing my nation, so every invitation makes me excited.”
“I’m excited to be here, but I know I have to keep doing something to remain part of the team.”
Ghana will face Colombia in the round of 32 on Saturday in Kansas City.
