World Cup 2026: Jerome Opoku says Panama win has lifted Black Stars ahead of England clash
Jerome Opoku believes Ghana’s opening World Cup victory over Panama has given the Black Stars the perfect platform ahead of their crucial clash with England.
According to the defender, the three points have boosted confidence throughout the squad and created a positive atmosphere in camp.
“I think everyone is happy with the result. The three points are the most important thing, and now we feel a good vibe in the training rooms. That’s what we needed going into the next game.”
Opoku also praised the balance within the Ghana squad, saying the mix of experienced and younger players has created a strong team spirit.
“We’ve got experienced guys, players coming to their first World Cup like me, young players and senior players. It’s a healthy balance.”
Despite England’s quality, the defender believes Ghana have enough talent to compete.
“We know they’ve got great players, but we know our qualities too. We just need to fight for each other like we did against Panama, and hopefully we can get the three points.”
Ghana take on England in their second Group L fixture looking to secure qualification for the knockout stage.
