World Cup 2026: Ghana goalkeeping coach backs Black Stars keepers to handle England challenge
Ghana’s goalkeeping coach has expressed complete confidence in the Black Stars’ goalkeepers ahead of Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup clash against England, insisting they are fully prepared for the physical and technical demands of the encounter.
Speaking to Ghanafa.org, the coach said preparations have been specifically tailored to England’s attacking strengths, with the goalkeepers regularly exposed to match-specific scenarios during training.
“Obviously, England is one of the best teams in the world. They have certain characteristics and a style of play, and we’re exposing our goalkeepers to those conditions,” he said.
“We’re preparing them not only for the timing of catching and boxing, but also the physical challenge they’ll face. I have no doubt our goalkeepers are prepared for all the conditions against England.”
The goalkeeping coach also dismissed speculation over Ghana’s decision to travel with four goalkeepers, explaining it was a deliberate choice by head coach Carlos Queiroz. Although Solomon Agbasi is not part of the official 26-man World Cup squad, he remains with the team in camp alongside Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Benjamin Asare and Joseph Anang.
“I’m extremely pleased with the goalkeepers we have. We have four, and sometimes there’s speculation about why four goalkeepers. The reason is that coach Carlos Queiroz likes to do a lot of finishing and crossing drills, and it’s important we have four so they can rotate. There’s less repetition for each of them, which keeps them healthy and sharp.”
He added that every training session is tailored to the strengths of Ghana’s next opponents.
“Panama is different to England. England will be different to Croatia. We analyse each opponent, identify their dangerous players and attacking patterns, then incorporate that into training.”
Ghana opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama and will face England knowing another positive result would put them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages.
