At just 17 years and 240 days old, midfielder Gilberto Mora cemented his status as a football prodigy by becoming the youngest Mexican and youngest North American ever to play in a FIFA Men’s World Cup.

The teenager etched his name into soccer folklore during co-hosts Mexico’s dramatic 2-0 opening match victory against South Africa at the historic Estadio Azteca.
