Women’s swimming champion Jamie Kyle met an unhappy end after being found unresponsive in her home, and the police believe something more sinister may be at play in her death…
On Monday, Jamie’s girlfriend went out drinking at a bar, and didn’t return home to the US Virgin Islands until midnight. When he returned, he walked into the house to find his girlfriend unresponsive and lying on the floor. He knew right away that the New Hampshire native needed help.

According to the police report released by United States Virgin Islands PoliceGirlfriend and friend – although whose name has been released – drove Jamie to Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic. Police were told that performing CPR was useless. They were informed of her death when they arrived at around 2:39am – almost three hours after she was allegedly found. The star athlete is 42 years old.
A cause of death has not been revealed by the authorities, but they said Bureau of Criminal Investigation has taken over the case and is “currently under investigation.” He was dead on arrival at the hospital apparently wondering what had happened.
Why didn’t the boyfriend and his friend call 911 right away? He packed her up and took her to the hospital himself, but couldn’t the EMTs have done it sooner? Emergency responders are trained to deal with this problem, right?
We will just have to wait for the investigation to answer these questions. You can watch more of the case (below):
Jamie was a star swimmer who competed around the world at a young age. In 1997, he participated in the competition Pan Pacific Championship and won the gold medal in the relay race. He also won a silver medal in 1998-1999 World Aquatic Swimming World Cup in Brazil. Impressively, his records for the 200-yard fly, 400-yard IM, 200-meter IM, and 400-meter IM in the 15-16 age group have yet not broken over twenty years later.
A friend spoke to a New Hampshire-local outlet WMUR about the tragic loss:
“She’s just her, she’s so beautiful. She has a big heart. She’s so loving and kind and loved and popular on the island and everyone knows her.
Just heartbreaking. We send love and light to Jamie’s family and friends. I hope he gets the justice he deserves.
