The Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Free Zone (LFZ) – Nigeria’s first private free trade zone, Dinesh Rathi, has announced that the newly commissioned Lekki Seaport will boost Nigeria’s economy by increasing trade volume and attracting foreign direct investment. investment (FDI) to Nigeria, through the Zone.
Rathi said this while delivering a goodwill message at the official commissioning of Lekki Deep Sea Port by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhariheld at the port site on Monday, January 23, 2023.
In his speech, he disclosed that with the integration of the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Lagos Free Zone is the ideal investment destination, due to the quality of infrastructure available in the Zone. He noted that the Port will provide unparalleled competitive advantages to investors in the LFZ in terms of ease of doing business and trade efficiency.
Rathi thanked the shareholders, partners, and contractors of the project for their joint efforts in the actualization of the project. He believes that the combination of Lagos Port and Free Zone will play a major role in boosting Nigeria’s GDP and creating employment opportunities for the people.
“The establishment of Lekki Deep Sea Port today by President Muhammadu Buhari marks an important milestone for the government and citizens of Nigeria as this project will affect the growth and development of the economy. Lekki Port and LFZ will grow together creating a first-of-its-kind ecosystem in Nigeria.
We express our sincere appreciation to the Federal Government, Lagos State Government, and all relevant government agencies/parastatals, especially the regulator- the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA) for their support throughout this journey,” he said.
