Will Ghanaians choose a dead sheep over a lame elephant? – Owusu Bempah asked
Ghanaians will not make the mistake of electing former President John Dramani Mahama who ran Ghana as a casino economy when he was in office, the Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ernest Owusu Bempah has said.
Mr. Owusu Bempah said that during Mahama’s administration, millions of children could not go to high school because their parents could not afford it.
However, under the Akufo-Addo administration, the free SHS program has enabled 5 million poor children to attend school.
Again, he said, under Mahama’s administration, Ghanaians experienced an electricity crisis that disrupted business but the problem has been resolved by President Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Mahama, he added, used $280 million to build the Circle Interchange, while President Akufo-Addo used $289 million to build four, Pokuase, Obetsebi, Tema and Tamale interchanges.
Speaking to 3news.com while reacting to Mr. Mahama’s nomination form for him to contest for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer position, Wednesday, February 22, Mr. Owusu Bempah said “we all know our politics. history, has Mahama not to sacrifice Ghanaians? As Vice President, as caretaker president and sitting president, for six years he ran an economy like a casino economy. The main legacy is dumsor which is a nightmare for every Ghanaian, hundreds of thousands of jobs lost.
“The economy is on its knees when there is no global crisis, running GDP 3 percent.
“We handed over an economy that found oil in commercial quantities, the GDP was about 14 percent when we left power but when Mahama took over before 2012, the GDP went down to 3.5 percent of the GDP, that tells you how the economy has gone down. This is the economy that the NDC left behind , with abysmal performance in all sectors.
“Ordinary barbers, barbers, trotro drivers are suffering, we are not yet in a pandemic, but this is growing, it is terrible in the NDC. In 2013 the depreciation of the Cedi was 14.5 percent, in 2014 there was a 31.3 percent depreciation, we are talking about the dead sheep. Most industries in Ghana collapsed under the NDC regime, from PNDC to Mahama NDC, so I dare you to come and tell me that it is not true.
“In the banking sector, the interest rate is about 35 to 40 percent under Mahama, the cost of borrowing is high, there is no crisis, and corruption is the order of the day, Mahama is making corruption in this country, he is making corruption part of us. body politics , to the extent that the leader himself is a part, such as the Kanazoe fiasco, the Airbus scandal, Isofotone. The company cited by Bloomberg and the New York Times as one of the most corrupt companies in the world was awarded a $280 million contract to build a roundabout interchange.
“In Akufo, $289 million was used to build four interchanges in Ghana, Obetsebi, Pokuase, Tema and Tamale interchange.
“When it comes to education, children from poor families cannot get access to free education according to the social democratic dead sheep. Parents cannot send their children to school because they are poor. Today, in elephants limping more than 5 million children since the NPP took over they have been able to access SHS education.
“The energy sector, the debt he left before he left power is unthinkable. He signed the ENI Sankofa contract which made Sankofa gas the most expensive gas in the world that ordinary Ghanaians are now paying for. So when they talk about increasing the debt that is it. Ghanaians be wise, Mahama came only four years old, he is six years old, and this is his legacy, so he will choose a dead sheep over a lame elephant.
