Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Saturday said he has ended his relationship with All Progressive Congress (APC) after the February 25 presidential election.
He said this in Oyo State when he appealed to residents in the state to support the second ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Governor Rivers is in the state, at the invitation of Mr. Makinde, to attend the inauguration of the 5,000,000 liter Oyo State Aviation Fuel Dispensing Depot at the Ibadan Airport in the Alakia area of the state.
TV channels live broadcast of the eventand PREMIUM TIMES monitors.
Messrs Wike and Makinde are members of the G5, a group of embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors who rebelled against PDP and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar on the grounds that a southern turn would produce a successor to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr. Buhari hails from Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria.
‘Broom finished (on) Saturday’
“There is no relationship with anyone anymore,” Mr. Wike said in Oyo State, apparently referring to the brief endorsement and support for Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate in the just concluded election.
“The only relationship that exists on March 11 is an umbrella. It’s not like a broom. The broom was finished on Saturday, last week,” he added.

The umbrella is the PDP logo, while the broom is the APC logo.
Mr. Tinubu defeated PDP candidate, Atiku, Labor Party’s Peter Obi, and others to become Nigeria’s 16th president.
The way the APC won the election in Kali seems quite dramatic.
Mr. Obi led by Mr. Tinubu, earlier in the day, with over 23,000 votes in Kali, when the results of 21 of the 23 local government areas in the country were released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
At that time, Mr. Obi got 169,414 votes while Mr. Tinubu got 148,979 votes.
But Mr. Tinubu overtake Mr. Obi when the results from the two remaining local government areas – Obio-Akpor and Degema – came in.
Mr. Tinubu scored 80,239 votes in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, while Mr. Obi scored 3,829, followed by Atiku with 368 votes.

Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party polled 161 votes.
In Degema Local Government Area, Mr. Tinubu got 2,375 votes while Mr. Obi got 2,212 votes. Atiku got 3,108 votes, while Mr. Kwankwaso got 44 votes.
Mr. Tinubu polled 231,591 votes in Rivers State against Mr. Obi’s 175,071 votes.
Yiaga Africa, a civil society organization, has faulted Election results in Kali, said they were inconsistent with its observations.
The group, in a statement on Wednesday, suggested that the Labor Party had won the election in Rivers.
Mr. Tinubu, with the support of Governor Makinde, too win in Oyo State.
‘Make an ally you can count on’
Governor Wike praised Mr. Makinde whom he described as a reliable ally.
“I am not surprised by Seyi Makinde’s performance. You can only belong to G5, put your feet on the ground because you know what you are doing.
“It is only those who are afraid, who have nothing to offer who cannot stand firm and bold and take a decision and say that we must do the right thing, no matter who is involved.
“Your governor has shown that he has the capacity, he has shown that he is a man you can count on. I am happy that he is one of those who made history by ensuring that power moves to the south,” Mr Wike said.
