Why SSS invited Fani-Kayode – Spokesperson

The State Security Service (SSS) said the invitation of Femi Fani-Kayode, the spokesperson of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, on Monday, was in connection with the investigation.

SSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Mr. Afunanya said the investigation was related to several allegations and insinuations by former ministers related to national security issues.

He said Mr Fani-Kayode was made to face a panel that interviewed him on the matter before granting him administrative bail.

He said the former aviation minister has been directed to return to the SSS regularly from Wednesday until now as investigations continue.

Mr. Afunanya called on political parties and media managers to exercise control over their speech and public communication before and after the general election.

He said the call was to avoid heating up and fueling tendencies that could lead to violent reactions as well as damage to peace and order.

Mr. Fani-Kayode, through a tweet last week, alleged that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, met secretly with some military generals. He said the meeting could be part of a plan to destabilize the country and pave the way for a coup.
