Why NAFDAC is expanding directorates–DG | The Guardian Nigeria News

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), said the agency will expand its directorate to promote greater and effective management.

Adeyeye stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, when he presented the agency’s strategic targets for the year 2023-2028.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Muhammadu Buhari on December 30, 2022, reappointed Adeyeye as director general of the agency for a second term.

Adeyeye said the continuation of meaningful human capital deployment, strong governance and getting approval for Hazard Allowance and Regulation are among his goals.

The director general also said that he will get approval for the Scheme and Conditions of Service as well as ensure trained staff for SAP account software.

Adeyeye added that he would increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the agency.

The director general said he would use additional media to disseminate information on NAFDAC activities.

“There will be use of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, drama and comedy artists to convey the importance of quality regulated products, safe, effective and healthy as well as making the media parley more structured,” he said.

Adeyeye promised to sustain the transformation agenda that started in 2017 during his second term in office.

He said that one of his achievements in his first tenure was to maintain a disciplined and motivated workforce, and also eliminate substandard and fake medicines.

The director general said that fighting the menace of unsafe and illicit drugs is part of his priority, adding that he is aligning NAFDAC with international standards on food, drugs and water.

Adeyeye said he met the agency with different administrative and procedural symptoms such as a huge debt of N3.2 billion and an Internal Revenue of less than N700 million.

They also argued that the slanted nominal rolls ignore the requirements for federal character with non-post-marketing distribution and surveillance practices.
