The White House condemned Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) for his “incredibly ugly and inappropriate” remarks suggesting late President Joe Biden’s son, Beau Biden, should be impeached while he was still alive.
During Monday’s episode of the right-wing podcast “The Great America Show with Lou Dobbs,” Comer criticized U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who is currently overseeing it federal investigation into Hunter Bidenfor not indicting Beau Biden during an investigation into illegal contributions to his father’s campaign more than a decade ago.
In 2012, Weiss demanded Christopher Tigani, a Biden donor who “illegally donated $72,700 to [Biden’s presidential] campaign in 2007,” and return his employees for donations made in his name.
Beau Biden, then Delaware’s attorney general, recused himself from the investigation, and according to The Washington Postthere is no credible evidence to suggest that Biden had prior knowledge of Tigani’s campaign fraud.
But Comer confirmed in the podcast that Beau Biden, that died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46, it was involved.
“These U.S. attorneys … had the opportunity to look for Biden last year. In fact, Beau Biden, the son of another president, who participated in some of the campaign contributions from the accused as well,” Comer, who chairs the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, said in a podcast , the Post reported.
He continued: “But, you know, nothing happened. So I don’t know much about this US attorney [Weiss] other than that he had the opportunity to investigate the Bidens before and he chose not to. We all know he just kept quiet.”
When asked about his comments during a press briefing on Wednesday, the White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “It says a lot about the chairman, which is not good.”
“To make the statement that he did is really bad and inappropriate,” he added.
“Instead of House Republicans focusing on attacking the president and his family, why don’t they focus on what the American people are doing in office, which is delivering for them, which is working with their colleagues … actually making laws or implementing policies that will make a difference in life,” said Jean-Pierre.
Joe Biden has repeatedly brought up Beau throughout the president. Most recently, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) heckled Biden during his State of the Union speech last year after he mentioned his son’s death when referring to veterans’ health.
