Leeds have completed the loan signing of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie until the end of the season.

McKennie becomes the third signing Jesse Marsch’s side have made in this January transfer window, after Max Wober and Georginio Rutter.

The midfielder was capped 41 times by the United States and played against England in the World Cup group stage in Qatar in November.

Sky in Italy said there is an option for Leeds to make a permanent deal for an initial £30m in the summer, although this is only an obligation if certain criteria are met.

Talk to Sky Sports after sealing the move to Leeds, McKennie said: “I’m definitely excited. The January window works fast. Around one week ago I didn’t know where I was going and now I’m here.

“When I hear interest, it’s definitely exciting. There are people I know here, Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Jesse Marsch, I’m ready to start.

“I hear the support is amazing, the atmosphere too – it’s an adrenaline rush for me to go out and see the fans go crazy. It’s like a 10-fold energy boost. Elland Road is dope! The stadium is really nice. Top level.”

Asked what Leeds fans can expect from him, McKennie replied: “Hard work, constant 90 minutes of back and forth, tackles, trash talk and everything – funny moments and serious moments.

“It’s a dream come true, I’ve dreamed of playing in the Premier League for the longest time. To have the support system that I have here, I’m ready.”

Sky Sports Europe expert Andy Brassell:

“Juventus have to make money. They have had a big wage bill for a long time. Weston McKennie is a player who has done well, but he is not a key player.

“He looks like a player who will do well in the Premier League. Then you look at the American connection and you can understand Leeds. He’s not the only one interested.

“He has a good machine, he has proven that he can also score goals. He has developed at Juventus. He is an interesting player.”
