‘We’re excited to have him with us’ â?? Gary O’Neil on new Ipswich boy Fatawu Issahaku

Ipswich Town manager Gary O’Neil has expressed his delight at the signing of Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu, describing the 22-year-old as a player who will add quality and depth to his squad ahead of the Premier League season.

“Abdul is a young player who has already gained good experience in the game, and we’re excited to have him with us,” O’Neil said.

“He has strong physical and technical attributes, is comfortable on the ball and can test the opposition in one-on-one situations, so will provide us with good options within the squad.”

Fatawu joins Ipswich from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee, signing a five-year contract until the summer of 2031. He arrives fresh from an impressive World Cup campaign with Ghana, where he featured in all four of the Black Stars’ matches, including the historic goalless draw against England.

O’Neil highlighted the winger’s international pedigree as a key factor in the move.

“Having represented his country at the World Cup this summer, I know he is now looking forward to getting to work ahead of the Premier League season.”

The 22-year-old winger, who has won 32 caps for Ghana and scored three international goals, is known for his pace, technical ability, and direct running at defenders. He has played in the Champions League during his time at Sporting Lisbon and has experience in the Premier League with Leicester.
