We’ll maintain core of Black Stars team that played at World Cup – Didi Dramani

However, the technical team remains the same, with Dramani and George Boateng remaining as assistant coaches.

Speaking to Joy Sports in an interview not yet on Prime Take, Dramani said the plan is to retain the core of Ghana’s World Cup squad.

“At [World Cup] troops are still alive. You have to see how the league is now and also [players] in the field,” said.

“Speaking of what needs to be taken care of, if someone is injured they come out [for the qualifiers]. The core of the team is still the base.”

Meanwhile, former Ghana international John Paintsil has urged Chris Hughton to add James Kwasi Appiah to his backroom staff.

According to the former defender, Appiah’s experience with the national team will help Hughton during his tenure.

Appiah is currently out of touch, having previously had two spells as Black Stars coach from 2012 to 2014 and from 2017 to 2019.

Paintsil, who played for Ghana in several tournaments, including two World Cups, believes the coaching partnership between Hughton and Appiah will deliver the AFCON trophy.

“What we need to do is have people like Kwasi Appiah,” Paintsil said, as quoted by Footballghana.

“When Chris Hughton got Kwasi Appiah in the team, they even managed to win consecutive Nations Cups because, he has that experience, and Kwesi Appiah also has that experience and also understands the culture of the game, I think it will be everything.”

Hughton and his technical team’s first task will be against Angola in next month’s AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
