We do not try to influence the judge’s decision – the Traditional Talent Council

The Traditional Talents Council (TTC) in the Upper East Region has denied allegations of any influence or entrapment by Bolgatanga high court judge, Justice Prince Alexander Graham in the performance of his duties.

On March 8, 2023, the Talensi Traditional Council invited the Judge for a debriefing on some worrisome land litigation matters that tend to cause harm and damage to lives and property in the area and are before the court.

After the meeting, the judge claimed the invitation amounted to influence and tried to entrap people and thus charged and convicted two members of the Council who sent an invitation to contempt and ordered to sign a guarantee of good behavior for six months.

But in a press statement, the Traditional Talent Council denied the judge’s statement.

The council maintained that, it is past time to collaborate with the court to amicably resolve the land litigation issue and that the invitation is only part of such collaborations with the court to resolve the land litigation issue of concern in the city and not try to influence the delivery of justice. .

“The Council did not send these two members to influence Prince Alexander Graham in any way. This was only an invitation given to His Highness by the President to see how best the land issue could be handled by the Council through the Customary Land Secretariat with the assistance of the Judge .

“With the member not going to court to trap the judge or influence his decision on the pending case because the council is not a body or Tongraan Kulgbilsong Nanlebgtang, its President is a party to the pending land case in the high court. or other courts in the area”.

The Council stated that it recognizes the independence of the judiciary to deliver justice and will not attempt to circumvent the mandate.

“The Council respects and understands the independence of the Judiciary in carrying out the functions established by law. It also recognizes the longstanding cooperation between the Judiciary and Traditional Authorities in the resolution of disputes in the interest of peace and justice.

“Therefore, the council will be the last entity to abandon the tradition and practice of the law, which is why the two members of the council have been charged and found guilty of breaching the law”.
