The province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is in mourning following the death of well-known rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known by his stage name AKA.
The tragic news of his murder has sent shock waves through the music industry and the country.
AKA the dead
According to the South African Police Service, AKA and Tebello ‘Tibz’.’ Motsoane was shot and killed at close range on Florida Road, Durban on the night of February 10, 2023.
‘Sad day for KZN’
KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, issued a statement condemning the senseless and brutal killings.
“This is a sad day in our province and country and the music industry. We are devastated by the way he died,” Dube-Ncube.
“This is a tragedy of monumental proportions and we call on law enforcement authorities and the people of our province and country to work together to ensure that the killers are brought to justice.”
AKA is a global ambassador for South African music and puts the country on the world stage.

KZN ‘cannot be linked to killers’
Dube-Ncube also expressed his sadness that such bad behavior would be associated with his province.
“Law enforcement authorities must quickly respond and solve this senseless killing so that the attackers face the full force of the law,” he said.
Crime eats away at the fabric of our society
“Our province cannot be associated with murderers who kill innocent people with impunity.”
The spirit of AKA will never die
The Prime Minister also called on everyone to come together and play their role in fighting crime in society.
“AKA’s killers have succeeded in ending his life but his spirit will never die.
“His music will inspire many generations to come and will remain a part of our legacy as a nation,” he said.

RIP AKA

AKA is survived by his parents, his brother Steffan, his daughter and his girlfriend, Nadia Nakai.
