NLEX imported Wayne Selden. – PBA PICTURES
MANILA, Philippines–Wayne Selden chose to look at the positives after his impressive debut as import NLEX in the PBA Governors’ Cup ended in a shocking loss to Barangay Ginebra.
Selden had 43 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals on Wednesday, but the Road Warriors couldn’t close it out and lost 114-111 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The setback ended NLEX’s unbeaten streak of four straight wins to start the conference final season with native import Jonathon Simmons, who left after continuing his pro career in China.
“We’ve got a lot of potential,” Selden said. “What a great group of guys [and] I like men. We worked hard tonight, [we] just made a few mistakes in defense and I know we will be better in the next game.
The opening action is a sign that NLEX may not be worried about how they can fill the void left by their former NBA player in Simmons, who soon has the whole team moving in a positive direction.
And Selden admits that the assignment was accepted immediately.
“I got the responsibility for the team, the staff, the coach to be good, to be a leader,” said the former Memphis Grizzlies cager, vowing to make up for his own shortcomings.
“I was a little tired tonight, but there’s no reason to. In the next game, I’ll have more energy, for sure.
