Washington Post Columnist Breaks Down Trump’s Joke About People Hating Their Kids

In Philip Bump’s latest column for The Washington Post, the commentator suggests that it’s because Trump “knows, if only intuitively, how anxious young Americans are, including those who are in relationships.”

The subtext to Trump’s comments is that “a lot of Trump supporters are really wary of their own children and grandchildren,” because of the gap in support for Republicans between older and younger Americans, Bump said.

The comments “get deeper,” he said. It’s a “feeling that younger Americans may ‘deserve’ not to be loved by their parents.”

“Maybe your kids are Democrats who voted for Joe Biden. Do you want to give it to them? those people your field?” The bump is complete. “The answer here is simple: Those kids probably don’t want farms.”
