Voting to continue in Cross River on Sunday – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has extended voting in the presidential and National Assembly elections in Cross River State until Sunday, February 26.

This was announced in a statement signed by Anthonia Nwobi, head of the department, voter education and publicity, on behalf of Gabriel Yomere, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Cross River.

According to Mrs Nwobi, the extension became necessary for the presidential and National Assembly elections to be held in the country’s regions which could not be held on the original date of February 25.

“The extension until Sunday is for the exercise conducted in the polling units and wards in Cross River where the election is not conducted, including Bakassi Local Government Area, Dayspring 1 and 2 as well as Qua Island.

“Polling in the affected areas will resume at 8am and end at noon.

“All stakeholders, including members of political parties, the Interagency Consultative Committee on Electoral Security, Observers, the press, INEC staff and ad-hoc personnel for the 2023 general election should be guided,” he said.

He added that the commission assured all eligible voters of the resolution that no registered voter would be disenfranchised in the 2023 general election.

James Bassey of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps has said earlier that some hoodlums prevent the movement of people.
