VON DG urges APC to zone position to South-east, canvasses support for Orji Kalu, Izunaso

Osita Okechukwu, Director General, Voice of Nigeria (VON) requested the zoning of the 10th Senate President to the South-South for equity and justice.

Mr. Okechukwu, also a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

“Methins is strategic for the Senate President’s zone to the South-East, based on equity, justice and natural justice.

“Nigeria is on a tripod and since the South-East has not got a president or a representative, it is strategic to start the process of reconciliation and recovery with the zone.

“I agree that Southeast East did not vote big for my big party; but my leader should think about tomorrow,” he said.

Mr. Okechukwu said the zone has high-ranking senators who could be elected Senate President.

“Fortunately, we have six elected senators, two in the ranking cadre – Sen. Orji Uzo Kalu and Sen. Osita Izunaso. Let’s choose one of them.

“At least no one will blame us because we did not have a senator which happened in 2015.

“Of the two senators ranked in the ring, one would prefer Orji Uzo, as the current Chief Whip, who has more gravitas for better representation and mobilizations from the South-East to fight future political elections,” he said.

Mr. Okechukwu added: “My brother Izunaso has a less than democratic godfather, while Orji is his own mask.

On the possibility of electing Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State as Senate President, the VON DG said, “he (Umahi) is not a ranking senator and is a provincial. It took him four years to enter the national. Orji studied in the north, did business in Lagos and more Pan-Nigeria.

The 19th session of the National Assembly will be inaugurated in June.
