Veteran Nigerian actor ‘Papa Ajasco’ is dead

The news of the talented thespian’s death was confirmed by a theater practitioner, Husseini Shaibu, on his Twitter handle on Sunday.

He wrote, “I have been reliably informed that ethnomusicologist, former Music Instructor with the #NATIONALTROUPE and one time character ‘Papa Ajasco’ in the popular #waleadenugaprod comic series ‘Papa Ajasco’ Mr. Femi Ogunrombi has passed away.”

Ogunrombi took over the character, Papa Ajasco when his former character, Abiodun Ayoyinka was pulled out of the show and he performed the role while it was still there.

Papa Ajasco and Company (formerly The Ajasco Family) is a Nigerian family television sitcom created by Wale Adenuga in 1996. The show is a spin-off of a feature film of the same title produced by Wale Adenuga in 1984, on which it is based. in the Ikebe Super comic. The story revolves around the Ajasco family and a comedic interpretation of a major social issue. The main characters include female patriarch Papa Ajasco, his long-suffering wife Mama Ajasco, mischievous son Bobo Ajasco, local playboy Boy Alinco, Miss Pepeiye, a diligent gold digger, and illiterate Pa James and Pa Jimoh. At first, Papa Ajasco was considered the most watched comedy series in Nigeria, being watched weekly in twelve African countries.
