Two people shot dead, three others wounded in Eldorado Park



Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for suspects after two people were shot dead and three others injured in Eldorado Park, south-west of Johannesburg.

The shooting incident, which is suspected to be related to gangsterism in the area, happened on Thursday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Lt. Col. Mavela Masondo said the five victims were inside the apartment building when unknown gunmen shot through the window at about 8:30 p.m.

“Two of the victims were certified dead at the scene while three were taken to a local medical center for treatment.

“The motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage, although it is suspected to be related to gangsterism in the area,” Masondo said on Friday.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could help investigate or help arrest the suspect to call their nearest police station or crime scene on 08600 10111.

“Information can also be provided anonymously through the MySAPS App which can be downloaded from any smartphone.”

Westbury shooting suspect arrested

In a separate incident, four suspects believed to be responsible for a shooting incident that took place in Westbury, west of Johannesburg, on New Year’s Eve have been arrested.

The suspects, suspected of involvement in gangsterism, were arrested on Thursday, in the area, in connection with the December 31, 2022 shooting.

Masondo said there were no injuries or fatalities related to the shooting incident.

He said the four suspects arrested were found to be in possession of firearms and a car that had been reported stolen in Ennerdale. A magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition and drugs was also found in a block of flats in Coronationville.

The suspects were charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, possession of firearms without a license, possession of ammunition and possession of drugs.

They are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
