Twitter critics are calling for Australian-born right-wing media mogul Rupert Murdoch to be stripped of his US citizenship and deported after undermining American democracy with a recently revealed Fox News series about the 2020 presidential election.
Murdoch, whose media operations often oppose immigration, became an American citizen in 1985, which allowed him to circumvent laws that barred foreign nationals from owning more than 20% of US broadcasting licenses.

Despite Murdoch’s lucrative citizenship switch, he is no fan of US democracy. He and Fox News continue to peddle Donald Trump’s baseless claims about a fraudulent presidential election that his hosts and news executives don’t believe, according to a bombshell summary filed earlier this week.
Murdoch blasted a memorable press conference held by Trump ally Rudy Giuliani and lawyer Sidney Powell after Trump’s bizarre election defeat claiming voting machine software had been manipulated in a plot led by Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, who has been in the grave for seven years . .
“It’s really crazy. And it’s damaging,” Murdoch wrote in a November 2020 text message, which was revealed in a brief filed Thursday by lawyers for Dominion Voting Systems. The company is suing Fox News and its parent Fox Corporation for $1.6 billion for defamation.
Carlson said in messages obtained by Dominion that Powell “lied” about having proof of his wild claims and called Trump a “force of the devil,” according to the summary. Fox executives were so concerned about the danger Trump posed that they did not allow him on the Lou Dobbs program on Jan. 6, 2021, deeming his actions “irresponsible,” the brief said.
But despite this, Murdoch’s Fox continues to support Trump and stories about the election being rigged to pander to the former president’s supporters.
Now, his enemies are taking to Twitter to get him out of the country.
Murdoch could not immediately be reached for comment.
