Truss would stand a good chance of winning another member’s ballot – politicalbetting.com

One of the great strengths that the Liz Trust has is its popularity with Conservative members. This was evident in the months and years leading up to the July-September 2022 leadership election when he regularly topped Conservative Home’s monthly survey of his favorite Cabinet ministers.

If there is another ballot, and it is far from certain that will happen, it is probably best to assume that they will have the same level of support. In the last member vote, he got 57.4% of the votes from Rishi Sunak.

As we know, his term as Conservative leader and Prime Minister lasted just 44 days and saw one of the biggest falls in the pound it has seen in the last decade. A significant proportion of the Bank of England’s currency reserves continued to stabilize in sterling during the worst of the crisis.

This was all triggered by a speech at the September conference when he laid out a vision for a country that was far from anything we had known before and caused market panic.

Even with this visible black mark, I feel that in another Tory contest he will come out on top.
