Trump’s nephew Fred, the son of Trump’s older brother Fred II, has a son, William, who has complex disabilities, including physical and intellectual disabilities. He and his wife, Lisa, have advocated for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities for years. In his book, Fred discusses his realization that with his uncle becoming president, he would have access to the White House to raise awareness about the needs of people with disabilities and the impact on their families. However, he would come find out that his uncle held some disturbing views about the disabled.
After a meeting at the White House with members of the administration, medical advocates, and ex-President Trump, Fred felt encouraged that his uncle was onboard to help people like his great-nephew William. However, after the meeting, Trump asked to talk to Fred privately and said, “Those people . . . “The shape they’re in, all the expenses, maybe those kinds of people should just die.” Fred said he was stunned and hurt.
At another meeting, Fred III asked Donald to convince all the Trump siblings of his father to continue funding the family medical fund for William, which was becoming depleted. Trump then said to his nephew, “ I don’t know. “He doesn’t recognize you. Maybe you should just let him die and move down to Florida.”
Fred felt devastated. However, he reports that his Uncle Donald and grandfather Fred were always cold and cruel-leaning men. His book describes his grandfather as the significant influence on the self-absorbed, cold personality of the Trump family. Trump’s callous attitude towards people with disabilities is no secret.
Trump infamously mocked New York Times reporter Sergei Kovaleski, who has a condition called arthrogryposis, which limits his ability to move his arms. As Trump supporters laughed and enjoyed the cruelty, the rest of the world’s stomachs turned.
Trump was once overheard saying he preferred not to include veterans with disabilities in a particular military parade because ” It doesn’t look good for me”.
John McCain was a war hero who was captured, held hostage, and tortured for years during the Vietnam War. Donald Trump dodged the draft, claiming bone spurs as his excuse not to serve his country. H3 mocked McCain’s arm disability, and made the now infamous statement:
