Although Trump did not name specific individuals or publications, the draft’s majority opinion was first reported in Politico last May by reporters Josh Gerstein and Alexander Ward. Trump also called for throwing “publishers and editors” behind bars.
“Stop playing games, this leak cannot happen,” said the former president of the social network Truth Social. “It won’t be long before this slime’s name is revealed!”
The Supreme Court announced in a report published on Thursday that an eight-month investigation failed to identify the source of the leak. This is the first Supreme Court opinion to be announced before the court declares.
No journalist has been charged with a crime for reporting on the draft opinion, nor has anyone been held in court for refusing to reveal their sources in connection with the leak.
Politico declined to comment on Trump’s attacks.
Leak investigators are continuing to “review and process some of the electronic data that has been collected and some other inquiries are pending,” according to the Supreme Court report.
