Donald Trump claimed President Joe Biden “convinced” Russian President Vladimir Putin to “go to Ukraine” in a mini-campaign speech to a Mar-a-Lago audience over the weekend.
He falsely asserted that Biden supported Putin’s aggression when he said it was “no problem” if Putin took “some part of Ukraine.”
Trump also announced at a Mar-a-Lago event reportedly in connection with the Conservative Political Action Conference that he would have to invite a professor to the White House to explain to him how horrible nuclear war would be if it happened in a presidential debate.
“Its power is so destructive that we won’t talk about it,” he said. Trump said that experts urged him: “Sir, do your best not to talk about it … It’s very destructive, very powerful. The world is going to end,” he added while pointing out that Biden increases the risk of nuclear war because he “doesn’t have a mind.”
The former president, speaking from the podium, also insisted that a The “crazy” fatal shot of Capitol rioter Ashli Babbitt during the violence of January 6 in 2021.
“There is no excuse”, said Trump. “We will not let this continue. This is a terrible person, a terrible person,” he said, referring to the police who protected the MP that day. “What did the protesters do…”
Micki Witthoeft, Ashli Babbitt’s mother, was arrested after blocking traffic at a protest on the Capitol grounds Friday, police said. He ignored orders to move and instead “rolled around with his hands behind his back and demanded to be detained,” a statement from Capitol police said.
Ashli Babbitt, a Trump supporter, was shot by police officers during the riots when she climbed through a broken window in the Capitol amid violent mobs trying to reach lawmakers during riots as part of an attempt to overturn the president’s election. (See the video below).
The Justice Department is investigating Babbitt’s shooting and, based on the evidence, is not seeking criminal prosecution of the Capitol police officer who shot him.
Trump again insisted that the Capitol rioters were just “protesting a dishonest election,” even though there was no evidence that the votes were dishonest.
Nearly 1,000 rioters have been arrested and charged or have been convicted of several crimes in the January 6 riots, including trespass, theft and destruction of government property, assault and sedition.
Frequent Mar-a-Lago Curry Lake visitors appeared on the show with Trump. He baselessly calls himself the “rightfully elected governor” of Arizona, even though he lost the gubernatorial election to Democrat Katie Hobbs in November.
A columnist for the Arizona Republic wrote that while Lake could be the governor of the fantasy of Neverland, Narnia, Middle Earth, Oz or Wonderland, he is definitely not the governor of Arizona.
Trump has largely hunkered down at Mar-a-Lago even after he announced in mid-November that he would run for president again. He is surrounded by sycophants at the resort, which one Trump confidant recently described as a kind of “Barbie Dream House” where Trump can still pretend to be president.
