Donald Trump baselessly boasted Thursday on the Truth Social site that published excerpts from the investigation of the special jury of Georgia on the efforts of the former president and his allies to solve the defeat of the 2020 elections in the country as a “total exoneration” of him.
Trump instead thanked the jury for their “patriotism” and “courage,” adding, “The US is very proud of you.”
The former president claimed that he was unclear because his name was not mentioned. But no one was named in the five-page report released Thursday, as ordered by Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney.
The exemption does not refer to the specific charges that the 23-member panel recommended be filed against individuals. But most members believed that “perjury may have been committed by one or more” of the 75 witnesses who appeared before them and recommended “appropriate indictments” for perjury, according to the document. Trump did not testify before the panel.
McBurney, who oversaw the special grand jury and ordered the release of the citation, honored Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ request that no names or various other details be made public at this time.
The rest of the panel’s findings remain private — including what McBurney described as “a list of who should (or should not) be indicted, and for what, in connection with the conduct (and consequences) of the 2020 general election in Georgia.”
Willis said in court that a charging decision was “imminent.”
A grand jury determined there was “no evidence” of widespread election fraud — as Trump claimed, more than two years after Joe Biden’s inauguration.
Although there is no evidence of election fraud in the state, Trump told the secretary of state of the Republican of Georgia, Brad Raffensperger, in a recorded call after all the votes had been counted and rechecked to “find him” only enough votes to defeat Biden after the fact. .
“Fellas, I need 11,000 votes,” Trump said on the call, which included the state’s general counsel. “That’s where I rest.”
The call was the main reason for the grand jury investigation.
Trump, referring to himself on Truth Social in the third person on Thursday, insisted that “the President” was involved in “a perfect call about the integrity of the election in Georgia, which he had to do.”
Those who do not have the right to force officials to change the election results without cause.
The special jury noted that it heard “extensive testimony on the subject of election fraud from poll workers, investigators, technical experts and employees and officials of the state of Georgia, as well as from people who still claim that the fraud occurred.”
But “we found unanimously that there was no widespread fraud in the 2020 Georgia presidential election that could have affected the election,” the report said.
As a “special” jury, the panel has no indictment authority. But he made recommendations as to what expenses the people should pay through the regular jury, which met in session two months during the year.
