Trump Called Supporters Storming Capitol ‘Trashy’ But Good ‘Fighters’: Jan. 6 Testimony

When Donald Trump watched the riots on January 6 last year on TV, he told them that his supporters looked “very trash”, the former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham testified to the committee on January 6, stating that “some people in the West Wing. ” who had been with him.

“I don’t know if they expected him to put on a full suit of, like, Roman armor and that would make him not trash,” Grisham said, according to a transcript of his testimony. “He feels like he looks rubbish – but he likes how the fight is going for him,” he added.

Grisham clarified that he did not hear these comments from Trump himself, but “from some people in the West Wing, more on the side of the military aide or the Secret Service, then only a few people, but he was sitting in the dining room, and he just watched everything happen .

“Some of the comments were that these guys looked really trashy, but also, ‘Look what a fighter they are,'” he said.

He’s “kind of reveling that these guys are fighting for him, but he’s also not happy with how he looks.”

Grisham also recounted Trump’s angry response on election night when it became clear he was losing the race to Joe Biden. She then worked as press secretary and chief of staff for Melania Trump, and encouraged the first lady to tell Donald Trump to “be president” in comments and said: “We’ll see what happens, not all the votes.”

Instead, the president took the podium and said: “This is a fraud on the American people. This is an embarrassment to our country. We are preparing to win this election. Frankly, we won this election.

Grisham said he sat on a couch in the Blue Room and cried. “I am embarrassed and angry that he chose to speak,” he told committee members.

Grisham resigned from the White House just hours after the Jan. 6 violence erupted when Melania Trump rejected his plea to fight the insurgency.

At the time, the first lady was overseeing a carpet photo shoot at the White House, possibly for use in a coffee table book she reportedly wanted to write. He later claimed that he had no idea what happened that day at the Capitol.

Grisham said he quit because Melania Trump “wouldn’t take the time to photograph the carpet when our Capitol is under attack to tell people to be peaceful,” he testified.
