Trump Arraignment: Marjorie Taylor Greene Outside Court

Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) endorsed former President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign just hours before he was set to be arraigned over hush money payments to adult movie stars.

“The prosecution of President Trump in New York is a political stunt by a prosecutor whose campaign was funded by George Soros,” Hyde-Smith said in a statement. “The charade is all about self-promotion by the prosecutor and has nothing to do with justice. I believe the whole affair will backfire on the prosecutor and the Democrats.”

Hyde-Smith is the sixth GOP senator to support Trump’s bid for another White House term. In his statement, the Mississippi senator cited Trump’s policies as a reason to support him again. He failed to mention Trump’s unprecedented efforts to reverse his 2020 presidential election defeat and the January 6, 2021 riots at the US Capitol.

“Because of this agenda, we got hundreds of miles across the US-Mexico border, reduced taxes, elected conservative judges, a healthy economy, wages are increasing, we are respected around the world, and we are energy independent,” he said. “I support a return to these policies and the effective leadership of President Trump.”
