The 32-year-old has been instrumental in the Magpies’ rise over the past year since signing from Atletico Madrid last January.

Trippier has been part of a Newcastle defense that has kept 16 clean sheets in all competitions this season.

Eddie Howe’s men are third in the Premier League and on the brink of the League Cup final after a 1-0 semi-final first-leg win away to Southampton on Tuesday.

“It’s a positive moment for the players at the club and there’s nowhere I’d rather be,” Trippier said.

The former Tottenham right-back is Newcastle’s first signing under the ownership of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund.

Trippier played a key role in keeping Newcastle in the Premier League last season before pushing for Champions League competition this campaign.

“It’s a fitting reward for the season we’ve had,” Howe said.

“He was exceptional on and off the field, showed real leadership in difficult times when he first arrived, and now he excels in a good team.”
