In April 2019, then President Trump and his lawyer Rudy Guiliani explained to newly elected Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy that they wanted him to investigate Trump’s opponent for the presidency, Joe Biden. It is widely reported that Zelenskyy does not plan to comply with Trump’s request but is worried about how to deal with pressure from Trump without losing much-needed US military aid. Colonial Alexander Vindman heard the conversation in which Trump explained to Zelenskyy that he wanted to at least announce that Ukraine will investigate Joe and Hunter Biden. Colonial Vindman reported what he heard to his superiors and Congress blamed Trump for trying to detain military aides to Ukraine for political gain.
Following a visit with President Zelensky in Kyiv, President Biden delivered a speech in Warsaw, Poland to a cheering crowd of over 30,000 Polish citizens. Some of his most memorable comments were:

- “The United States and its allies will definitely withdraw from Ukraine”
- Democracy in the world will preserve freedom today, tomorrow and forever,”
- Kyiv stands strong, Kyiv stands tall.
- “We must have security in Europe,” Biden said at the presidential palace in Warsaw. “It is basic, simple, consequential.”
- He described NATO as “perhaps the most important alliance in history,” and “stronger than ever despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hopes that it will be torn apart by the war in Ukraine.”
- “He describes the conflict as” about democratic freedom in general.
- “For all the disagreements in Congress on some issues, there is an important agreement on support for Ukraine.”
While Biden made America big on the world stage by defending freedom and democracy around the world, right-wing Russia-friendly members of Congress opposed his efforts. Republicans who support US efforts in Ukraine should reject the party’s anti-democratic wing in general. The districts that continue to send these militant, racist, pro-Putin people to Congress are complicit in the threat to our democracy. MAGA fanatics like Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauran Boebert, Paul Gosar, Speaker McCarthy, and others are tarnishing America’s image around the world. Aid support for Ukraine defending its sovereignty proves them to be false patriots who live in a democracy only because they allow them to have assault weapons and racists. After being elected, you cannot lose your job.
