Tinubu meets N’West Muslim leaders, pledges to be fair, just to all

District President Candidate All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, promised to be fair and just for all, if elected.

Mr. Tinubu made the promise during a town hall meeting with North-west Muslim leaders in Kano.

The presidential candidate, who asked Islamic scholars to vote wisely, promised to be fair, just and consistent with the principles of the Islamic faith.

“A leader in a plural society like ours is required to be the leader of all. If elected, I will govern honestly and democratically, in line with the constitution of our country.

“I have tried to be a faithful and devoted servant. I have tried to improve the lot of all of us, whether Christians or Muslims.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Almighty God who has blessed all of you on this great occasion. Thank you for your visit and your warm welcome.

“I pray that He will continue to give us wisdom and righteousness to complete this great and important task. Without guidance and counsel, the nation cannot reach the place that God has determined for us,” he said.

Mr. Tinubu said his vision is collaboration, continuity and consistency for the development of Nigeria.

The presidential hopeful promised to run the campaign as he did when he was in office.

He also promised to save the economy and fight corruption and insecurity by providing modern equipment to security agencies.

Earlier, the Northern Coordinator, APC Presidential Campaign and Jigawa Governor, Abubakar Badaru, allayed fears of a Yoruba-dominated government, should Mr. Tinubu be elected.

He stated that there is no caucus meeting that does not include his Kano State counterparts, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Nuhu Ribadu, both of whom, he said, will not betray the North.

Mr. Badaru also added that Mr. Tinubu is healthy and mentally alert and will not let Nigerians down.

Also speaking, Mr. Ganduje noted that the Muslim-Muslim ticket is not new in Nigeria.

He said it was witnessed in 1993 when the late MKO Abiola chose his fellow Muslim, Babagana Kingibe, as his running mate and he still won the election, despite being annulled by the military regime.

“This will be repeated with Tinubu and Shettima in the coming elections, who will win and will not be undone,” Mr Ganduje said.

Several Muslim leaders, who spoke at the occasion, including Ustaz Aminu Gusau, Sheikh Khalid Abubakar and Tijani Imam, among others, declared their support for Mr. Tinubu.
