The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has refused to plead with the governor to ignore President Muhammadu Buhari’s order that the old N500 and N1000 will not be legal tender under the CBN’s policy that eliminated him.
Mr. Buhari in a broadcast on Thursday said only the old N200 note should be reissued and used alongside other old notes until April 10 when it will cease to be valid.
In what appears to be a counter-order, in a statewide broadcast, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State said the old notes will be used in his state in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision pending the determination of the previous substantive claim. that.
Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje, also criticized the federal government over the policy, saying it was an attempt to make the APC lose the forthcoming general election.
The Supreme Court will rule on February 22 on the matter brought by some state governments against the federal government and the CBN over the legality or continued use of the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender.
The online platform, Peoples Gazette, in a publication stated that Mr. Tinubu asked the APC governors not to ignore Mr. Buhari on the order.

Dele Alake, the APC-PCC adviser on media and communications, never gave such instructions on behalf of Mr. Tinubu, the statement said.
The statement said that the message cited by the online platform which was randomly shared on WhatsApp was not created by Mr. Alake.
“Asiwaju Tinubu has been known, since the currency exchange crisis started, to call for calm as the authorities try to find a solution to the currency crisis. He has suggested six points to ease the grief our people face when trying to get money from banks “, part of the statement.
“He has also held several meetings with President Buhari, his boss on the matter.

“It is thus unimaginable and unthinkable that he would lead APC governors to ignore the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari on currency matters,” the statement said.
The statement noted that the governors who have so far opposed the president’s action have made it clear that they are following the decision of the Supreme Court, the highest court in the country.
“Asiwaju has no influence on this decision.

“Journalists, unless acting under the dictates of political opponents or demanding some agenda, must seek confirmation of the authorship of the material from the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the campaign. They can also seek confirmation from Tinubu Media Office or Mr. Alake,” the statement said.
The campaign council called on the online platform to withdraw the story immediately.
