In an issue dated June 9, a donkey is featured under a “LOST” sign with tear-off phone numbers to call the Democratic National Committee in case someone finds the party.
“Democrats know they have a branding problem that transcends policy, messaging, or leadership questions,” Charlotte Alter wrote in the cover story, later adding: “They know they need fresh ideas and new leaders, even though they can’t always agree on how to find them.”
But with Trump in office and both chambers of Congress controlled by Republicans, even an ass knows that Democrats face an uphill climb.
Still, a comeback may be looming.
“When you hit rock bottom, anything is possible—and every transformative political figure of the modern age has emerged from a moment like this one,” Alter wrote.
