We are now seeing quite a few polls with the Tories 20% or more behind Labor and, of course, time is running out.
An election is almost certain to take place next year and unless there is a change in public opinion, the Tories will leave Number 10.
One thing that Sunak can be important is the ability to choose the date of the election. My guess is that they will be hoping for early summer elections a few weeks after the local elections in May. If the polls continue to be as bad for the Tories as they are now, they will delay until the autumn.
The PM’s big hope is that something can turn this round around, but it’s hard to see what.
