Three people killed, nine wounded in Myanmar bomb blast | The Guardian Nigeria News

Three people were killed and nine wounded in a bomb blast at a train station in southern Myanmar on Monday, the junta and local media said.

The explosion hit the station in the town of Nyaunglaybin in Bago region about 150 kilometers north of the commercial center of Yangon at around 12:20 local time (0550 GMT), the junta’s information team said in a statement.

It published images showing debris and roof tiles destroying the platform.

Local media, citing residents, also reported three people killed and at least nine injured.

A junta statement blamed the anti-coup “People’s Defense Forces” (PDF) for the attack, without providing evidence.

Military groups and the PDF have been blamed for several deadly blasts in recent months.

There was no statement from the Bago region PDF, which claimed responsibility for the explosion that destroyed a bridge in Nyaunglaybin on February 9.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military seized power two years ago, with anti-coup rebels clashing with junta forces across the country.

There are almost daily killings of low-level junta officials or anti-coup fighters, with murky details and often swift reprisals.

In December around a dozen people were injured in an explosion on a ferry in Yangon.

In October at least two bombs exploded outside a prison in Yangon, killing eight people and injuring 18.

Junta leader Min Aung Hlaing admitted recently that more than a third of the country’s cities are not under military control.
