Thousands join the Asantehene to celebrate the 1st Akwasidae in 2023
Thousands of people gathered at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to pay tribute to the King of Asante, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of activities to mark the first Sunday of the year,
It is marked by drumming and dancing amidst the exchange of greetings, the presentation of drinks and other pleasantries.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II entered the Palace on a palanquin dressed in kente cloth with gold ornaments on his wrists and arms amid the beating of drums and the firing of musketries.
He was succeeded by the Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The Akwasidae Festival is a wonderful Asante celebration that focuses on honoring ancestors, remembering and acknowledging past kings and their noble achievements.
It serves as a celebration of the Golden Stool and cultural vibrancy that brings together the Asantehene, sub-chiefs, subjects and dignitaries in Manhyia in Kumasi.
The atmosphere is filled with many activities, including drumming and dancing, cultural displays and more.
