A week today and just hours before the polls close in this year’s local elections. Votes in some places will be counted at night and in other places they will be counted on Friday.
In normal times, if there is a shocking result for one of the major parties, it is likely to be big news on Saturday and possibly serious on Sunday. But that won’t happen this year because a week on Saturday will be the coronation of King Charles.
If the general election polls are in the right areas, next week’s locals will be bad for the Tories. Less media coverage, I would suggest, would be good for Sunak.
