The late Lepowura Alhaji Mohamadu Nurudeen Jawula was a former president of the Ghana Football Association from 1997 to 2001 and a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, former Director General of Ports and Ports, former Director General of the Ministry. Health, former Director of the Ministry of Finance and Board Member for several Boards including the Cocoa Board, Shippers Board, and others.
Alhaji Jawula is a famous person who died in the United States on January 21, 2023, after a brief illness at the age of 73. He was born on May 3, 1949 in Accra in the Greater Accra region of Ghana and began his secondary education at Tamale High School completed in 1966 and continued at Marling School, Stroud Glos, England in 1968, University of Cape Coast in 1972 University of Ghana in 1974 and 2010
In pursuit of continued academic excellence, Alhaji Jawula proceeded to the University of Cape Coast in 1972 for BA (ED), University of Ghana, Legon for MA in African Studies in 1974 and then to the University of Ghana, Legon in 2010 for MA in Social Policy .
Alhaji Jawula served in various public and private capacities for the benefit of the nation, rose to prominence and contributed greatly to national development at every level of professional involvement.
He started his career as a tutor at Tamale Secondary School from 1972 to 1974 and later became the Head of the School’s Economics Department. Alhaji Jawula later served as the Assistant Secretary in Dagomba East district council in Yendi between 1976 and 1978 and was appointed the District Chief Executive in Walewale between 1979 and 1980 and later became the District Chief Executive of West Mamprusi District Council.

Working as the Deputy Director of Administration in the Ministry of Finance from 2000 to 2003, Alhaji Jawula was active in preparing the state budget, providing logistics and statistics.
In 2003 he moved to the position of Director General for the Ministry of Ports & Railways, served on the Board of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority and was instrumental in the expansion of the Port of Tema and Takoradi mines which allowed larger ships to sail through the Port of Tema and Takoradi as a port Cocoa and Oil exports until 2006.
Based on his managerial and administrative capacity and experience over many years, he facilitated the initiation of policy, direction and implementation for the Ministry of Health including the negotiation of a single backbone salary that changed the level of remuneration for health workers in his capacity as Director General. 2006 to 2008. He facilitated working relationships with all Development Partners such as USAID, DANIDA, and DEFID.
Alhaji Jawula was the Consultant Director for Otumfuo Traditional Leadership Center, UPSA from 2014 to 2019. He coordinated with the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the University of Professional Studies on the Center’s academic affairs. They provide leadership training, technical support and guidance to staff to ensure OCTL’s goals are met.
The final Adua Rite will be held in front of the State House, Accra on March 4, 2023 at 10am.
