Because I’m almost a local – I live about a mile and a half from the constituency – I get a fair number of questions asking for thoughts on possible elections in the Mid-Beds. This is, of course, the seat where Nadine Dorries has been an MP since GE2010 and the person who announced on June 9 that she was stepping down as an MP with “immediate effect”.
It was hoped that he would be given a peerage in honor of Johnson’s resignation. Well, that didn’t happen and Nadine has not resigned as MP.
Even so, there is a lot of activity going on with LD and LAB working hard.
Nadine launched a book, The Political Assassination of Boris Johnsonon the night of Sunak’s first leadership speech at the party conference and this will be a good moment for him to make his point.
The best guide to what could happen in an election that won’t happen should come Friday morning with the results of the three ongoing elections. This will give us a good idea of how the parties are. Can LAB take on Uxbridge and Selby and what a swing it will be. The same goes for LDs in other contests.
